Evidence of Intention
rock (AZ pipestone), charcoal, graphite, performance, 2008
Phase 1: Word-like scribbles were scratched in rows into a 350lb rock and drawings related to layering, communication and complexity were drawn on top. Phase 2: Using simple rock carving tools, the rock was broken apart. Visitors were invited to pick up the chipped-apart, broken illustrated pieces from the ground. Phase 3: Bets were taken to guess how many hours it would take me to break apart the rock. Phase 4: Broken pieces of the rock were distributed around the citiy to be found by accident or sought out through a series of maps, created online and printed and left in public places. Symbols to illustrate the process of the piece are used online and on the printed maps.
